Background: Dominantly acting loss-of-function mutations in the ABCC8 gene, encoding the sulfonylurea receptor 1 (SUR1) subunit of the β-cell potassium channel (KATP), are usually responsible for mild diazoxide-responsive congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI).
